En el folclor báltico, un hada que aparecía como una hermosa doncella desnuda con una larga cabellera rubia.

Las laumas vivían en el bosque, cerca del agua o las piedras. Anhelaban tener hijos, pero como no podían dar a luz, con frecuencia raptaban criaturas para criarlas como si fuesen suyas. A veces se casaban con hombres mortales y se convertían en excelentes esposas, perfectamente capacitadas para las labores domésticas. Muy temperamentales, eran consideradas benévolas, maternales, caritativas con los huérfanos y las niñas pobres, pero muy vengativas cuando se enojaban, en especial con los hombres irrespetuosos. En Letonia y Lituania, el término lauma ha pasado a designar en siglos recientes a una hechicera o bruja.
